POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for safely operating all types of agency motor coaches/vehicles and

on-board equipment  to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule; Provide superior customer service in a safe, efficient and effective manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Safely operate a motor coach on a specified route, making required stops for passengers at designated terminals and stops.
  1. Conduct pre and post trip vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT regulations to ensure proper operating condition and safety of the vehicle and on-boarding equipment. Perform regular safety checks throughout shift and timely record and report any safety concerns that may affect operation of the coach and passenger safety.
  1. Maintain time schedules; issue transfers and collect fares in accordance with Agency policies. Assist passengers by answering bus service questions; announcing transfer points, major intersections, and destination points; assist persons with disabilities to board and depart the coach and provide assistance to passengers as may be required to ensure optimum customer service and courtesy. Ensure safe transit by properly securing passengers and mobility devices.
  1. Comply with the California Department of Motor Vehicle code regarding the operation of a commercial vehicle us to provide public transportation. Report accidents, law violations, and other incidents, as appropriate. Complete and submit accident and trouble reports on date accident or trouble occurred.
  2. Report unexpected road blockage or emergency. Follow route detours as directed by the dispatch office.
  3. Perform other duties in accordance with the MOU as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

      Knowledge of:

  1. California State Motor Vehicle Code.
  2. Principles and practices of public relations and customer service.
  3. Effective interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

 

Ability to:

  1. Understand and follow oral and written communications.
  2. Work varying shifts, hours, days, and locations.
  3. Make basic arithmetic calculations.
  4. Speak, read, and write in English.
  5. Read and interpret dials, gauges and other electronic instruments.
  6. Complete various required forms.
  7. To work with a broad spectrum of the public and appropriately and safely address situations that may arise.

Education:

At least a high school diploma or domestic (G.E.D.) or foreign equivalent. 

Licensure:

A current, valid and unrestricted California Class B driver license with passenger endorsement and VTT rating.

Must sustain the ability to pass a drug and alcohol test under the established agency policy.   

Training:

Must be current with all required safety training applicable to the position.
